Aims
The overall design aims of the Post Graduate Certificate in Project Management programme are to:

• Provide an underpinning of both the knowledge and skills needed by managers in the field of project management, so that students can contribute to and improve the achievement of their organisation's strategic objectives;
• Provide an analytical and multi-perspective framework, to enable students to recognise, identify and evaluate key management issues which critically impact on organisational performance and strategic direction in the context of project management;
• Provide an opportunity for participants to make a contribution to the body of knowledge and understanding in the area of Project Management;
• Encourage holistic thinking within the areas of Project Management
• Provide students with a stimulating, educational and professional programme of study to develop competent, versatile, enterprising, and self-reliant managers.
• Motivate and equip students to play a leading role in project management, engage effectively in improving the process through which companies, practices and projects are managed.
• Offer opportunities for flexibility of study for individual students, both UK and international, in relation to their own circumstances, interests, or career.
• Provide a balanced mix of challenge and support as students build and place in context their knowledge base, understanding, and skills; and offer opportunities to re-evaluate these in new contexts and in the light of additional evidence.

Intended Learning Outcomes – Programme Completion

On completion of the Post-Graduate Certificate in Project Management programme successful students should be able to demonstrate:

• A systematic understanding of relevant knowledge about Project Management and it’s external context;
• The application of relevant knowledge to a range of complex situations taking account of Project Management techniques and their relationship and interaction with other areas of the business or organisation;
• A critical awareness of current issues in project management which is informed by leading edge research and practice in the field;
• An understanding of appropriate Project Management techniques sufficient to allow detailed investigation into relevant business and management issues;
• Conceptual understanding that enables the student to evaluate the rigour and validity of published research and assess its relevance to new situations;
• Ability to conduct research into project management issues that requires familiarity with a range of business /organisational data, research sources and appropriate methodologies, and for such to inform the overall learning process;
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, using a range of media.
• To apply variance and unpredictability within projects and integrate work into the context of the wider economic, market and social environment in relation to professional practice;
• To recognise the role of ethical and value judgments in social, economic and technological contexts, and identify their source, effect and use in arriving at sustainable decisions and ethical solutions;
• To synthesise information from different sources and disciplines and apply it in innovative ways, postulating realistic solutions to current limits of understanding.
